Age Restriction:

No age restriction on importation of used vehicle.

Duties and Taxes:

For second-hand vehicles, two cases are possible

  • The importation of the vehicle follows a sale for export to New Caledonia. In this case, the vehicle is not registered in the name of the person concerned. The basis of taxation shall be constituted by the value of the transaction plus the costs of transport and insurance relating to the transport of the goods between the country of origin and New Caledonia.
  • For other cases, the taxable basis shall be determined by reference to the value of Argus New Caledonia valid for the calendar year. On this basis, a flat-rate reduction of 15% will be applied, followed by a new coefficient of reduction depending on the origin of the vehicle
  • For commercial vehicles and motorcycles: 21% if EU origin, otherwise 30%
  • For commercial vehicles (maximum load <5 tonnes): 21% if originating EU, otherwise 30%

For vehicles which are no longer listed on the argus basis, the basis of assessment shall be determined by reference to the last quotation of the argus on which a reduction coefficient of 10% per additional year is applied, within the limit of a reduction Maximum of 80% on the last known rating. In any event, the taxable base may not be less than the amount of the costs corresponding to the transport and insurance relating to the transportation of the goods between the country of origin and New Caledonia.
